4. LAWFUL BASES

I only process personal data where there is a lawful basis under UK data protection law. The basis depends on what I am doing:

  • Consent — for newsletter sign-ups and, where required, non-essential analytics and cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contract — where processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, or to perform a contract with you.
  • Legitimate interests — for proportionate business administration, responding to relevant business enquiries, maintaining relationships, protecting the website and improving how the business operates, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where I must keep or disclose information to comply with tax, accounting, regulatory or other legal requirements.

5. WHO I SHARE DATA WITH

I do not sell your personal data.

I may share limited personal data with service providers that help me operate the website and business, such as website hosting and WordPress providers, email and newsletter providers, analytics providers, professional advisers, payment or accounting providers and IT or security suppliers.

I may also disclose information where required by law, regulation, court order or to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.

6. MAILCHIMP

I use Mailchimp to manage newsletter subscriptions and send email newsletters.

If you subscribe, the details you provide are transferred to Mailchimp and stored or processed on my behalf for newsletter delivery, list management and related reporting.

Mailchimp may also process technical and engagement information connected with emails, such as delivery, opens or clicks, depending on my Mailchimp settings and the capabilities of your email service.

The lawful basis for sending the newsletter to people who subscribe through the sign-up form is consent.

You can withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting me.

You can read Mailchimp’s own privacy information at mailchimp.com/legal .

Cookies and similar technologies are small pieces of information stored or accessed on your device.

Some are needed for a website to work. Others are used for things such as analytics.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS

I use Site Kit by Google to connect mipphillips.com with Google Analytics.

Analytics helps me understand how people find and use the site so I can improve it.

Where consent is required, Google Analytics should only be allowed to use non-essential cookies or similar technologies after you have chosen to allow analytics or statistics cookies.

YOUR CHOICE MATTERS. You should be able to accept or reject non-essential analytics cookies. If you reject them, the core website should still work.

You can also manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Browser controls are separate from the consent choices offered on this website.

8. HOW LONG I KEEP DATA

I do not keep personal data for longer than I reasonably need it.

  • Newsletter data — kept while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I may retain limited suppression information so I can respect your opt-out.
  • Enquiries and general correspondence — usually kept only for as long as it remains relevant to the enquiry or relationship, unless there is a good reason to retain it longer.
  • Client, supplier, contract and financial records — may be retained for up to six years, or longer where necessary to meet tax, accounting, legal or dispute-resolution obligations.
  • Analytics information — retained according to the settings applied in Google Analytics and the lifespan of the relevant cookies or identifiers.
